Engine size, age recommendations, helmets, and training — everything parents need to know before putting their kids on a quad.

Getting children safely onto trails requires strict adherence to engine displacement boundaries and technical governor safety limits.

Sizing Engines to Age Profiles

Never put a child on an adult-sized utility machine. Youth quads feature restricted electronic speed limiters, physical throttle stops, and specialized single-lever braking systems sized correctly for small hands.

  • Ages 6–9: Under 70cc engines with speed throttles clamped below 15 MPH
  • Ages 10–13: 70cc to 90cc engines matching physical muscle growth
  • Ages 14+: 90cc to 250cc transition platforms prior to full utility licensing
